What Families Say Activities | EFL Activities on Parentisms and Everyday Phrases

This two-part activity invites students to explore the kinds of sayings we often hear from parents, relatives, and other people in our lives, from old-school “parent-isms” to everyday remarks we might hear at home. First, learners complete well-known phrases like “Money doesn’t grow…” by predicting the endings. Then, they guess who might say a range of common remarks, using illustrated character cards for added engagement.

The activity builds listening skills, cultural understanding, and fluency with natural spoken English.
