This thoughtful resource introduces learners to the lives of young carers in the UK through a powerful reading text and structured speaking activity. Students begin by reading about what it means to be a young carer, the responsibilities, challenges and support systems that shape their lives.
The follow-up activity is a discussion carousel. Students move around the classroom in pairs or small groups, responding to 12 carefully crafted prompts. This supports vocabulary development, extended speaking, and discussion skills while giving learners the chance to engage with a topic that’s relevant, human and often overlooked.
This resource is also part of our Family and Friends | EFL Resource Pack, which is available to download here.
Perfect For:
- EFL lessons exploring identity, care, and social themes
- Developing extended speaking and vocabulary
- Classroom discussions that promote empathy and critical thinking
