What Families Say Activities | EFL Resource

This two-part activity invites students to explore the kinds of sayings we often hear from parents, relatives, and other people in our lives — from old-school “parent-isms” to everyday remarks we might hear at home.

The first task challenges students to complete familiar phrases (e.g. “Money doesn’t grow…”) and predict the classic endings. The second task is a guessing game where students listen to common sayings and decide who’s most likely to have said them — choosing from a set of illustrated “friends and relatives” character cards.

The resource encourages active listening, cultural awareness, and real-life language use through structured guessing, discussion, and laughter. Includes full teacher instructions and three printable sets of cards.
